My betta fish/Fighter fish recently had a scare and was sick but with salt and meds he gotten better, but now since he gotten better he has grown slightly more pail, he is acting like he has swimmers bladder, but he just breathes the air outside his tanks I got for the little ******. I change his water once a week leaving 25% of the original water there, I just came back from a beach and added shells to the tank too like it look nice on the inside after I cleaned them really good with hot water, vinigar, and more hot water for like 2 days… Is it the shells because my pet store person told me the shells would help keep batira down. He does look bloated too but all he does is breath air… Betta experts why is that? The water is not to cold too it stays at a nice 85 degrees.

hey there, just saw that not to many people have answered you. hope your betta is still hanging in there >.<

first of all go here; scrole down the page and there are pics of different diseased that bettas can have. see if it looks like anything on here. and if its just getting pailer it probably isnt Ick, as ick will look more like the fish has been covered in salt.

Betta fish do breath air, but if it looks bloated it could be swim bladder or constipation. try not feeding him for a day or two (they can go a week with out eating) and the take a frozen pea, put it in the microwave for a few minutes to “cook” it. take the outer skin off hte pea (so you just have the two half’s) cut one of the inside peices up and feed that to your fish (it will help clean him out)

Now if you look DOWN at your betta and the bloating looks more like a pinecone it is DROPSY this is shown on the link i posted above.

I’m not sure about the shells. I’m more worried if any of the shell’s have sharp edges. if he has just been getting worse since you added them then i would recomend taking them out. but it could be, if you keep shoving your hands in the tank to arrange the shells that could stress him out even more and make him more sick.

you could take him to a vet, or the petstore, but moving him right now would cause more stress. if at all possible try and get some pictures of him to show.

good luck. sorry i couldnt be more help and i hope your betta is ok
