Mixing my betta with other fish?

July 5th, 2009 | by admin |
melissa asked:

Would it be ok if I put my female betta in the same tank as my guppies? I know females are not fighters like the males, but I wanted to make sure.

you probly shouldnt do that since bettas are ‘fighting’ fish. they might kill the other fish lol

I wouldn’t mix aggressive or semi-aggressive fish with non-aggressive fish. The non-aggressive guppy will look like food

Yes it is fine to mix your one betta with your guppies. Just keep a close eye on their fins, to see if she nips at them over time. If so go ahead and remove her.

I’ve seen females fight, too. I’ve seen females kill males who were trying to mate with them.

Most Bettas are rather subdued with other fish, though. Keep in mind that they ARE tropical fish and goldfish as tank mates are not appropriate.

I hear from a person that has a betta fish that they say they like to live in a very small tank and it like to be alone.

Do not do that, unless you want all of your fish to learn how to swim upside down.

It is just fine to put your female betta fish with your guppies! She won’t hurt them! So enjoy her in your tank!
