Siamese Fighter Nesting?
October 21st, 2009I have a Blue Male Siamese fighter (Betta) in a solo water vase. He has begun nesting over the past two days but he is not in any contact with a female, neither do i have a female fighter. Are there any reasons why he is nesting even when alone and should i breed him if that’s what he is preparing for? Does anyone know what i should do ??

MY betta fish is pale and breathing air?
October 14th, 2009My betta fish/Fighter fish recently had a scare and was sick but with salt and meds he gotten better, but now since he gotten better he has grown slightly more pail, he is acting like he has swimmers bladder, but he just breathes the air outside his tanks I got for the little ******. I change his water once a week leaving 25% of the original water there, I just came back from a beach and added shells to the tank too like it look nice on the inside after I cleaned them really good with hot water, vinigar, and more hot water for like 2 days… Is it the shells because my pet store person told me the shells would help keep batira down. He does look bloated too but all he does is breath air… Betta experts why is that? The water is not to cold too it stays at a nice 85 degrees.

Attention Betta owners. I have a question for you’s?
October 12th, 2009I bought my first crowntail today, there were a few at the shop along with regular longtails. I bought him because he was active, and has lovely colour.. Although I wanted a lighter coloured one. haha. I have never seen a crowntail in shops near me.. I couldnt resist! I’ve owned many bettas in my life.
He is so tiny now that I look at him, not even 2 inches yet. And is very active, exploring his new home.. Staring at me occasionally lol
So yeah, when you buy your fighters are they young and small when you buy them? Or does the fish shop only stock fully grown ones?
My little guy is so cute.. He needs to grow into his eyes though lol
Thank God the place I get my fish keep their fighters healthy and clean…
I prefer buying young ones… Because I like watching them grow.. And on the plus side, the ones I bought young tend to respond to me very well.. The one I bought full size doesnt even respond to me at all. What a snob he is.
Oh gosh I sound like an idiot.
I noticed how expensive bettas can be.
I only get mine for $5 each.. Either longtailed, or the occasional crowns, or anything else lol.

Bloated Betta Fish, is it normal?
October 11th, 2009I have 2 male fighters (obviously not in the same tank) and my red one has bloated up and now his belly looks like a pregnant guppy.
They’re both the same type and my black/blue one is still normal shape, so i don’t think it is happens with a sort of species.
Does anyone know what is happening?

Fighting fish (betta) and blue ram?
October 9th, 2009I just bought a fighting fish and he a very handsome male. I put him in my tank that has a blue ram, a bristlnose catfish and 4 corys. Theres also four baby guppies bout 3 months old. I did this because his 1 gal tank isnt ready yet. Now its been 3 nights since i put him in there and he seems happier then ever!!! So what im asking is…here it goes…
HAS ANYONE ELSE EVER USED FIGHTERS AS A COMMUNITY FISH? AND HAS IT WORKED OUT WELL?
I just want to know because hes so placid and fighters are always being put in liitle bowls and things because of there ‘bad’ nature. Mine is a gentle betta, he doesnt even ‘flare’ at my ram. the only problem ive had is i had to turn the filter down ultra low so he can ‘float’ peacefully.
Anyway thanks all. Also tell me about your fighters, bowl/tank size, mates etc
Thanks woodchipper890, due to your kind words i think ill keep him in the tank rather then the 1 gal cup. Angel

My female siamese fighter is blowing a bubblenest. I thought only males did this?
October 9th, 2009I have a female fighter/betta in a one-gallon tank on my bedside table.
I originally had her in my 10-gallon tank with a whole bunch of other community fish. She fell in love with the kuhli loaches and frequently swam/hid with them, ate with them, etc. She even followed them into their little underground tunnel-cave, which she got stuck in a few times. But then I noticed fungi growing on my female balloon mollies, and upon adding fungi treatment and wiping it off, I noticed tiny red scars. I caught her biting the crap out of them the next day, so I put her in the one-gallon.
Now she’s so incredibly happy and I honestly don’t know why! I would have thought she’d be super depressed because she couldn’t play with the kuhli loaches anymore, or bite the other fish anymore. And she doesn’t have a heater anymore.
Why is she so happy!? In the last 24 hours, she has blown about 2 squared inches of bubbles. And I thought only males blew bubblenests when they wanted to breed… ?

Anyone have a Betta for a pet?
September 30th, 2009I saw so many peeps with these Japanese Fighters as pets on desks, in stores, on counters in restraunts etc. and keep them in tiny little containers and say they are fine. How do they know? Put them in a tiny jar and see if they are just fine! Anyway, I got one, beautiful dark blue with a spec of pale white on his head, I had him in a one gal. aquarium with bubbles, then I got three African water frogs to keep him company and a friend gave me a 5 gal. aq. so I put them in there and added a filter along with some plants, rocks , etc. Now I have noticed that Betta is swimming more actively and the frogs are bouncing up and down and thru the bubbles like they are having all kinds of fun when before they didn’t move much at all. I’m so proud I wish I could put more male Bettas together, but how about a female and do some breeding, thats my question, anyone experience and have success with mating? I am really interested.
